Located in Southeastern Hamilton County, Fishers has 3 exits off of I-69 just 15 miles northeast of Indianapolis. Fishers has a rich history dating back to June of 1872 when Salathiel Fisher divided his land into town lots. The area was formerly known as Fishers Station and originally as Fishers Switch. New communities in this time period would spring up along railroads and Fishers was no exception, hence the early reference to a train station or switch. The Fishers Train Station, located in the heart of town, is home of the Fishers Chamber of Commerce and the Hamilton County Convention and Visitors Bureau.
Fishers is served by a Town Council form of government with a Town Manager. Elected officials include the Clerk-Treasurer and a seven (7) member Town Council. The Town of Fishers Municipal Complex is the site of the town hall, Chamber of Commerce, Convention and Visitors Bureau, Bureau of Motor Vehicles, library, post office, fire department, and police department.
